Aaliyah Edwards joins the Huskies of Honor: 'It's super cool to be among the GOATs'

Almost two years after graduating, Edwards finally went up on the wall at Gampel Pavilion.

The day before Aaliyah Edwards’ final collegiate game, Geno Auriemma walked up to her and Paige Bueckers with news. He told them that the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its All-American team — the accolade needed for players to be inducted into the Huskies of Honor, along with their graduation.

“You made the team,” Auriemma tells a stone-faced Bueckers, who had previously earned the honor as a freshman. Then he turned to Edwards. “So did you.”

Edwards stood in stunned silence before a jubilant Bueckers embraced her in a bear hug. At the very end of her career, Edwards had earned a spot in the Huskies of Honor.

On Wednesday, she finally took her place on the wall at Gampel Pavilion. The program could’ve just put her No. 3 up after Edwards graduated but held off so it could formally celebrate the Kingston, Ontario native.

“It's not something that I worked to achieve, but to get this honor, it's just amazing,” she said beforehand. “It’s super cool to be among the GOATs.”
