On Thursday, Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong were named to the 10-player WBCA All-American team. It’s the pair’s fourth First Team All-American nod of the season, joining with the USBWA, Associated Press and Naismith.
This is the 17th time multiple Huskies have made the WBCA All-American team. They’re the 51st and 52nd selections in program history.
The WBCA squad was previously thought to be one of two requirements for inclusion into the Huskies of Honor (along with graduating), but associate head coach Chris Dailey clarified that any First Team All-American honor will do.
Strong has also brought home three National Player of the Year honors: The WBCA’s Wade Trophy, the Naismith Trophy and the USBWA’s Ann Meyers Drysdale Award.
This season, Strong leads UConn in points (18.6), rebounds (7.6), blocks (1.6) and steals (3.4) while owning a .594/.404/.848 shooting split. She has 127 steals, second-most in a single year in program history. Nationally, Strong leads the country in Win Shares (12.3), Defensive Win Shares (5.2), defensive rating (55.8) and player efficiency (45.5).
As for Fudd, she’s put together her best campaign with the Huskies. She’s averaged 17.7 points on .489/.455/.955 shooting to go along with 3.1 assists and 2.6 steals — all of which are career-highs.
