Breaking down UConn's full 2024-25 schedule

On Wednesday, the Big East released its schedule for the upcoming season which filled out the remaining dates on UConn’s slate. As part of that news, the Huskies also revealed their home arena designations.

Let’s break down UConn’s now-complete 2024-25 schedule:

Home arenas

In tandem with the Big East schedule release, UConn also revealed its home arena designations. The Huskies will split their home games evenly between the two venues seven apiece (excluding the exhibition). Gampel Pavilion will host Fort Hays State, USF, Fairleigh Dickinson, Holy Cross, Seton Hall, Villanova, St. John’s and Marquette while the XL Center gets BU, Georgetown, USC, Providence, Xavier, Butler and Creighton.

The home schedule lacks marquee matchups to begin with and that’s especially true for the Gampel slate. There’s an exhibition, a couple easy wins with Fairleigh Dickinson and Holy Cross, then four middling conference foes.

At least the XL Center will get USC, which will be one of the most highly-anticipated games across the entire country this season.

During UConn’s semester break, all four home games will be at the XL Center. That means the Huskies won’t play at Gampel Pavilion for nearly two months between the Dec. 3 contest with Holy Cross and the Jan. 19 matchup with Seton Hall.

Balanced split

UConn has a nice balance between home and road games this season. The Huskies don’t play more than two consecutive games at home, and only do so once on the road with a three-game road trip at South Carolina, Seton Hall and Butler in January.

There is a caveat. After hosting Creighton and Marquette to close the regular season, UConn will likely then play three straight games at Mohegan Sun Arena in the Big East Tournament, followed by a pair of games back at Gampel Pavilion during the NCAA Tournament. That means the Huskies won’t have to leave the state for seven straight games (assuming there’s no losses in there).

Similarly, they’ll have four consecutive games in Connecticut in December with the Basketball Hall of Fame Showcase against Iowa State at Mohegan Sun buttressed by three contests at the XL Center.

Heavy Sunday slate

Of UConn’s 32 regular season contests, 10 will be on Sundays, with five of those at home. The next busiest day of the week is Wednesday with nine games followed by Saturday (5), Thursday (4), Tuesday (2), then Monday and Friday (one apiece).

New venues

While most Big East schools require their women’s teams to play in glorified high school gyms, UConn will get a couple upgrades on the road this season.

At Georgetown, the Huskies will play at Entertainment & Sports Arena — home to the WNBA’s Washington Mystics — instead of the 2,200-seat McDonough Gymnasium. UConn was scheduled for a game here back in 2021-22 but had to cancel it due to a Covid outbreak within the team.

When the Huskies travel to Creighton, they’ll trade the 2,950-seat DJ Sokol Arena for the 17,560-seat CHI Health Center Arena — the home court for the Bluejays’ men’s basketball team.

Against Providence, UConn will head downtown to Amica Mutual Pavilion — another venue that hosts all the men’s program’s home games — instead of the tiny 1,854-capacity Alumni Hall. The two schools were supposed to play at the AMP back in the 2022-23 season but they were kicked back to the campus gym when the men’s basketball team moved a game up due to an incoming winter storm.

Now the Huskies and Friars will finally get a chance to check out the downtown digs.

Marq it down for New Year’s

For the third straight season, UConn and Marquette will face off around New Year’s. In 2022 and 2023, the Huskies hosted the Golden Eagles on New Year’s Eve. This year, the Huskies will travel to Milwaukee on the first day of 2025.

Television and tip-times

The last pieces of the schedule that still haven’t been revealed are the tip-off times and television information. According to the school, those will come at a later date.

Even with that, there shouldn’t be any big surprises — especially with TV. SNY will presumably carry the majority of contests in its final season broadcasting the Huskies, with everything else falling to Fox (and associated networks), the ESPN family of networks and CBS Sports Network.

The lone exceptions will be the Baha Mar Women’s Championship, which will be streamed by FloSports.
