On Thursday, the Big East held its annual media day at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, New York City. The conference released its preseason honors while Geno Auriemma, Sarah Strong, KK Arnold and Blanca Quiñonez all spoke for UConn.

Preseason awards

UConn swept the Big East’s preseason honors. The Huskies were voted first in the preseason coaches’ poll, Sarah Strong was named Big East Preseason Player of the Year, Olivia Vukosa was tabbed as Preseason Freshman of the Year while both KK Arnold and Blanca Quiñonez were named to the Preseason All-Big East Team. All four players were unanimous selections. Meanwhile, Ashlynn Shade was a Preseason All-Big East honorable mention pick.

UConn to play Seton Hall at the Prudential Center

UConn women’s basketball’s annual trip to Seton Hall will have a different venue this season. On Thursday, the Huskies announced that they’ll play the Pirates at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey as part of the Coretta Scott King Classic on Monday, Jan. 18 — Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Fox will broadcast the game at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Quiñonez’s recovery

After undergoing shoulder surgery in May, Blanca Quiñonez revealed that she’s returned to court but is still limited in what she can do.

“I’ve started working out but not with the team yet,” she said.

Quiñonez didn’t reveal when she hopes to be fully cleared, simply saying “We’ll see” when asked about a potential timeline.
