How UConn's defense flipped a switch in win over Villanova

After a disappointing first half, the Huskies dominated defensively after the break.

When UConn fell behind Villanova in the second quarter, it certainly wasn’t the offense’s fault. To that point, the Huskies were shooting 13-22 from the field and had only turned the ball over twice.

Instead, the defense was the culprit. While UConn limited Villanova to a 3-13 start from the field, it switched off after that. The Wildcats connected on four straight makes in the first and then hit 5-8 to start the second.

During a timeout that quarter, Auriemma let his team have it.

“There was one incident in the second quarter where it was a little bit heated in the huddle because I felt like it wasn't just one incident, one time, or one player. It was everybody and I don't know that we had the focus that we needed to have,” Auriemma said. “I was pretty animated and pretty angry during that second quarter.”

Halftime was a different story, though.
