Inside Allie Ziebell's big night against Xavier: 'That's the kid we recruited'

Allie Ziebell sure likes playing against Xavier.

Back on Nov. 30, the sophomore set a season-high with 16 points in UConn’s win over the Musketeers at the Cintas Center. Last year, she notched a career-best 17 points in the same building.

But on Wednesday, Ziebell blew both those marks out of the water when she dropped 34 points behind an explosive 10-14 day from three. She snapped the Huskies out of an 0-10 start from deep with a triple late in the first quarter, then caught fire with three straight makes from behind the arc in the second quarter.

In the final period, Ziebell went nuclear. She drilled four consecutive 3-pointers, sending Gampel Pavilion into a frenzy. Xavier called a timeout, which gave the sophomore’s teammates the opportunity to mob her as she came to the bench.

“That’s the Allie I saw in high school. That’s the Allie I saw every summer (in AAU). That’s the kid we recruited,” Geno Auriemma declared afterwards.
