Regardless of how this season ends, Nika Mühl is going out on a high note after she announced that she won’t use her extra year of eligibility and will leave UConn after four years to turn pro.

A national championship next month would be the ultimate end to her career in Storrs but that would just add to what’s been an incredible journey since August. Over the summer, the team took a trip to Europe and made a stop in Mühl’s hometown of Zagreb, Croatia for her. Then in December, the Huskies hosted Ball State at Gampel Pavilion so she could play against her younger sister, Hana. To top it off, she got to soak it all in during an emotional senior night ceremony with her parents.

Mühl couldn’t be more appreciative.

“I feel like it's been such an emotional year for me, what this program has done for me,” she said. “I'm forever grateful and thankful that I was able to share those moments with the whole team. And I'm so thankful to Coach (Geno Auriemma) and the whole coaching staff and the whole program, everybody, to be able to make that happen for me.

“I just felt like with all of that, it was the best year of my life.”

Now, it’s time for the next step in her career — and Mühl made it clear that she’ll be turning pro as opposed to entering the transfer portal. As much as she’s loved her time at UConn, it wasn’t some agonizing decision that required a pros and cons list or anything of the sort.

Mühl just knew.
