UConn’s final game of the season will be a rematch against South Carolina with a national championship on the line. The Huskies won the previous meeting this season by an astonishing margin of 29 points during a February road trip to Columbia.
While UConn shouldn’t be expected to win this outing by nearly as much, it provides a recipe for success.
Most notably, the Huskies out-rebounded South Carolina by a margin of 19 in February. While they may not dominate on the glass in the same fashion, holding their own on the boards and limiting the Gamecocks’ second chance opportunities will be critical. It helps that Jana El Alfy played her best game at UConn on Friday night and that her previous top performance came against South Carolina, where she contributed on both ends of the floor.
The Huskies also made 13 threes in the game, led by Azzi Fudd with six. If UConn can replicate that success from deep, it’ll set itself up well for success in the rematch.
