Paige Bueckers captures first WNBA win in return to Connecticut
In her return to the state, Bueckers put together the best game of her young professional career to finally get the Dallas Wings in the win column.
Before Tuesday, Paige Bueckers hadn’t won a game since capturing the national championship in her final contest at UConn. Bueckers and the Dallas Wings started the 2025 WNBA campaign 0-4 — as many losses as she experienced through her first two seasons with the Huskies combined.
Turns out, she just needed to return to Connecticut to get back to her winning ways. On Tuesday, Bueckers secured her first professional victory by beating the Connecticut Sun 109-87 at Mohegan Sun Arena. Afterwards, she celebrated with a few former teammates who came to watch.
“Took you long enough,” Kaitlyn Chen said.
“First win at work,” Jana El Alfy chimed in.
“It’s that Connecticut air,” Caroline Ducharme added.
Whether the familiar surroundings, the fact the Sun are also off to a slow start (now 0-5) or even just the air itself, Bueckers put together her best performance as a pro in the win. She set career-highs with 21 points and an 80 percent night from the field while also collecting seven assists, five rebounds, three steals and a block.
