UConn’s 2024 signees keep bringing home the honors. After Morgan Cheli and Allie Ziebell were named McDonald’s All-Americans back in January, the pair were picked for the 2024 Jordan Brand Classic Girls National Team last week and both received recognition by the Naismith Trophy. Cheli was selected to the Naismith High School All-American First Team while Ziebell earned honorable mention status.

The two will participate in plenty of showcase games this spring. First up is the McDonald’s All-American game in Houston on Apr. 2 followed by USA Basketball’s Nike Hoop Summitt on Apr. 13 in Portland, Oregon. The Jordan Brand Classic will be held in Brooklyn on Apr. 21.

Both players recently wrapped up their high school seasons. Cheli and her top-ranked Archbishop Mitty squad won their fourth-straight NorCal Open title but suffered their first loss of the season in the CIF Open Division final.

As for Ziebell, she helped Neenah High School reach the state tournament for the first time since 2009. They got as far as the championship before going down — though Ziebell led all scorers with 35 points in the defeat.

The pair are now just a few months from arriving in Storrs for summer workouts, which will begin at the end of May. UConn hopes they’ll be joined by Sarah Strong, the No. 1 player in the class who put the Huskies in her list of finalists alongside Duke and UNC.

On his last radio show, Geno Auriemma spoke about the two incoming freshmen.
