Starting Five: UConn downplaying impact of cross-country travel
Geno Auriemma also had a suggestion for how to fix the NCAA Tournament schedule while Jana El Alfy got a surprise from her family.
UConn has been to three of the nation’s four corners in the NCAA Tournament so far. The Huskies began in Storrs for the first and second rounds, flew to Spokane, Washington for the regionals then went straight to Tampa for the Final Four. All told, they’ve traveled over 4,500 miles in the last two weeks.
“It's been long. It's definitely been long,” Caroline Ducharme admitted.
That won’t be used as an excuse, though. UConn’s opponent on Friday night, UCLA, also had to make the trek from Spokane. Even if the Huskies were in Birmingham, they still would’ve needed to jump on a plane.
“The travel is the travel. You're gonna have to travel regardless,” Ashlynn Shade added. “I don't think we're really considering that as a factor.”
