UConn is about to learn what it’s made of. Starting on Saturday with No. 22 Louisville, four of the Huskies’ next five games are against ranked opponents — including matchups at No. 10 Notre Dame and with No. 6 USC.
To this point, UConn hasn’t been challenged much aside from two contests against back end top-25 competition. Still, there’s been seven games of data to see what the Huskies are capable of.
So who’s stood out? And who has work to do?
Risers
Paige Bueckers
An off night against Holy Cross aside, Bueckers has been spectacular this season. She’s averaging 20.4 points on a remarkable 60.9 percent shooting and has knocked down 46.9 percent from behind the arc while improving her assist (4.6) and steal (2.6) numbers from last season. Bueckers is fulfilling her promise to be more assertive with the ball and should be the current frontrunner for national player of the year.

Sarah Strong
Through the start of her freshman season, Strong has lived up to the hype as the No. 1 recruiting in the nation — and then some. She does it all for the Huskies, leading them in rebounds (7.6), steals (2.7) and blocks (1.7) while averaging 15.6 points per game. Strong and Bueckers form a lethal one-two punch that opponents haven’t figured out how to stop.
“There’s usually a learning curve and I'm sure that there will be some things that will pop up in the next month,” Geno Auriemma said after the win over Holy Cross. “Sarah has a really good outlook on the game. She seems to know what we need at what moment — you can see it. When she gets comfortable, she thinks that any shot she takes is going in. So yeah, very rare. Very rare. Very rare. I’m a big Sarah Strong fan.”
