Despite being an All-Star snub, Azzi Fudd will still head to Chicago this weekend to participate in the WNBA’s 3-point contest. She’ll compete against the Portland Fire’s Bridget Carleton, the Seattle Storm’s Natisha Hiedeman, the Atlanta Dream’s Rhyne Howard, the Toronto Tempo’s Marina Mabrey and the Golden State Valkyries’ Janelle Salaun.

As a rookie, Fudd is only shooting 38.8 percent from deep, though she’s tied for the 10th-most makes in the league with 50. During her senior year at UConn, Fudd knocked down triples at a 44.7 percent clip and finished five made threes away from the program’s single-season record.

The 2026 3-point contest will feature two rounds with five shooting locations around the arc. The first four racks will have five game balls worth one point each, along with one money ball worth two points. The final rack will only have money balls. The two players with the highest scores in the opening round will advance to the final.

The event will take place at 8 p.m. ET on Friday, July 24 from Wintrust Arena in Chicago. ESPN will have the broadcast.

Analysis: This event was made for Fudd. While she has proven herself as more than just a shooter, that’s long been the hallmark of her game. With textbook form and a lightning-quick release, Fudd should be a favorite to win. The last time she took part in a 3-point contest, she came out on top despite wearing a walking boot.

Fudd will be the eighth Husky to participate in the 3-point contest, joining Diana Taurasi (2006-08), Sue Bird (2009-10), Swin Cash (2010), Maya Moore (2017), Renee Montgomery (2018), Kia Nurse (2019) and Stefanie Dolson (2024). No UConn player has ever won it.

After missing the first 27 games of the season after undergoing surgery on both ankles over the offseason, Napheesa Collier finally returned to the court on Wednesday. Based on her performance, it was nearly impossible to tell that she had been out.

Collier dropped a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds — all in just 22 minutes.

“I felt like a kid in a candy store,” she told reporters postgame.

Analysis: Geno Auriemma once joked that if you cut Collier open, there wouldn’t be any blood — just wires. Her spectacular return on Thursday certainly didn’t discredit that theory.
