Entering Tuesday’s contest with Iowa State, Geno Auriemma was worried about his team’s shooting. Coming off a miserable 3-16 performance from three at Notre Dame followed by inconsistent 8-22 day from deep against Georgetown and some rough practices in between, UConn had been in a slump. To make matters worse, they were going up against a Cyclones squad that knocked in nearly nine 3-pointers per game.

Auriemma didn’t feel good about the matchup.

“I thought we would have a difficult time,” he explained. “I said, ‘We need to win the 3-point battle by quite a few because they make nine a game.’ So there was a good chance that I thought they would get 15-17 tonight.”

Instead, the Huskies were the ones who shot the lights out. They set a single-game program record with 20 3-pointers — breaking the previous mark of 18 set in 2009 vs. Syracuse and matched in 2014 vs. UC Davis — in a 101-68 rout of Iowa State.
