UConn squanders defensive masterclass in Final Four loss to Iowa

The Huskies held Caitlin Clark to one of her worst performances of the season, but it didn't matter.

Against the No. 1 offense in the nation and the greatest scorer in the history of college basketball, UConn put on a masterclass defensive performance in the Final Four. The Huskies held Iowa to 71 points — 20 points below its season average — and Caitlin Clark to just 21 points — tied for her lowest total of the campaign.

In fact, Clark wasn’t even the Hawkeyes’ leading scorer. That belonged to sophomore forward Hannah Stuelke. Led by Nika Mühl, UConn’s defense limited the superstar to a 3-11 night from three and 7-18 shooting overall. Clark had just six points at halftime.

“Defensively, we couldn't have played better than we did tonight for the most part,” Geno Auriemma said.

Yet it wasn’t enough.
