Aubrey Griffin suffers non-contact injury in win over Creighton

Aubrey Griffin suffered a non-contact injury to her left knee in UConn women’s basketball’s win at Creighton on Wednesday night.

The redshirt junior went down in the third quarter after trying to block a shot and needed to be helped off the floor. Griffin couldn’t put any weight on her left leg as she went straight into the locker room.

“Apparently she went to put her foot down and her foot turned in...and it kind of kicked her knee in,” Geno Auriemma said postgame. “There wasn’t anybody around, there wasn’t any contact there, she was still on the floor. It wasn’t like she jumped, from the little I’ve been able to gather.”

While the Huskies won’t have a definitive prognosis until after the team returns home, the initial indications don’t sound good.

“The team doctor for Creighton came out and he pretty much said that the knee’s very, very unstable,” Auriemma said. “I guess we’ll know more when we do the tests.”

Griffin tore an ACL in high school and missed the entire 2021-22 season with a combination of leg, ankle, and back injuries that culminated in back surgery. In recent games, she’d been playing some of the best basketball of her UConn career while averaging 9.8 points and 6.2 rebounds on the year.
