The Aftermath: Nika Mühl continues to emerge as 3-point threat

As the lone ball-handler for UConn last year, Nika Mühl accounted for 40.1 percent of the team’s assists as she set the single-season program record for helpers. But with the return of Paige Bueckers and the addition of KK Arnold, Mühl still leads the team with 65 assists but only represents 27.7 percent of the Huskies’ total.
With those two taking away Mühl’s monopoly at the point, the senior has needed to find new ways to contribute. So she’s helped fill a void created by injuries: 3-point shooting.
In Sunday’s win over Georgetown, Mühl tied a career-high with four triples on just five attempts from deep as part of a 14-point day. That helped push her season average from behind the arc over 40 percent to 43.2 — the second-best mark on the team behind only Bueckers at 50.8 percent.
“Nika had the ball in her hands 99 percent of the time last year and now that she's in a situation where she's sharing the ball a lot with KK and Paige, she knows that she's going to be open,” Geno Auriemma told SNY postgame. “She's become a really, really, really good 3-point shooter because she has worked really, really hard at it.”
That she has.
“I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been working my ass off when it comes to the three points,” Mühl said with a laugh. “I’ve become more confident in just attempting to shoot it. I don’t think the making part has ever been my problem.”
With Mühl doing her part from the outside, UConn is quietly shooting 38.3 percent on 3-pointers — its highest mark since it led the country from deep at 39.9 percent in 2019-20 — despite being without some of its best shooters.
