UConn women’s basketball started from behind in its Big East Quarterfinal matchup with St. John’s on Saturday. The Red Storm scored the first basket of the day 1:31 into the contest and took a 2-0 lead — which proved to be the high point for 8-seed.

From there, the Huskies held St. John’s without a point for the remainder of the first quarter. In fact, the drought lasted 12:11 — nearly 60 percent of the entire half. During that time, UConn went ahead 22-2 and rode that wave all the way to a 71-40 victory.

“I thought defensively, we were great,” Geno Auriemma said postgame. “We did exactly what we wanted to do and that puts us in a position to win the game.”
