UConn women’s basketball played the first game of its European Tour on Wednesday, defeating the Croatian All-Stars 113-37 in Zagreb. The team provided some updates throughout the game and sent out a box score afterward.

Note: The following is based solely on the box score.

Paige’s availability

Prior to tip, UConn announced that Paige Bueckers won’t play in any of the team’s four games in Europe. Her return to game action is now set for November.

Starters: Nika Mühl, Azzi Fudd, Caroline Ducharme, Aubrey Griffin and Aaliyah Edwards

In its first live game of the season, UConn went with its five most experienced players to start.

That left Inês Bettencourt, Ice Brady, KK Arnold, Qadence Samuels, and Ashlynn Shade available on the bench. Alongside Bueckers, Amari DeBerry (back), Ayanna Patterson (knee), and Jana El Alfy (Achilles) were also out.

Minutes management

UConn had relatively even playing time. KK Arnold led the way at 28 while almost everyone else played at least 16 minutes. All three freshmen surpassed the 20-minute mark along with Fudd, Edwards, and Griffin. Ice Brady played 16 minutes in her first game with the Huskies while Inês Bettencourt got on the floor for 18 minutes.

There was reportedly an injury scare: Caroline Ducharme only got 7 minutes of action despite starting. @Gyabo08A on Twitter/X posted from the game and reported that Ducharme took a ball off the head and did not return.

Meanwhile, Nika Mühl only played 10 minutes in her hometown game. Why she played so few minutes is unknown.

Statline stars

Azzi Fudd: Along with a team-best 38 points, Fudd shot 9/17 (52.9 percent) from three. She and Qadence Samuels (3/10) combined for 27 of UConn’s 38 3-pointers. Nobody else had more than three attempts.

Qadence Samuels: The freshman had no hesitation from behind the arc and finished with 14 points — third-most behind Fudd and Edwards (17).

Aaliyah Edwards: The reigning All-American did what she does, recording a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds — four of which came on the offensive glass.

KK Arnold: The freshman filled the stat sheet with 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals. She led the team in helpers and was one of five players to reach double figures.

Aubrey Griffin: Griffin had a vintage line with 11 points, six rebounds, six steals, and an eyebrow-raising four assists. She also went 5/5 from inside the arc.

Ashlynn Shade: Shade also did a little bit of everything, collecting six points, five steals, four rebounds, and two assists. She was 0/3 from behind the arc but redeemed herself by going 3/4 from two.

Ice Brady: While Wednesday’s game might only be an exhibition on the other side of the world, it still represented Brady’s first game at UConn. She had eight rebounds — second-most behind Edwards — and seven points while going 1/2 from 3-point range.
