UConn finally has its first commitment in the class of 2027: Sydney Savoury. A 5-11 guard out of Belleville, Michigan, she announced her decision on Friday afternoon. Rated as the No. 9 prospect in the class by ESPN, Savoury picked the Huskies over North Carolina, Notre Dame, Texas, UCLA and USC.

"I chose UConn because of its incredible culture, dedicated coaching staff and tradition of excellence and winning," she told ESPN. "The program's championship mentality, high standards and commitment to pushing athletes to reach their full potential both on and off the court are everything I want to be a part of.

Savoury visited UConn for its final exhibition win over Army on Oct. 25 and then traveled to Ann Arbor — about thirty minutes away from her hometown — to see the Huskies battle Michigan on Thursday. She’ll be the second UConn player ever from Michigan, joining Jennifer Weideman (1983-87).

A bona fide scoring guard, Savoury won Nike EYBL MVP honors after posting 21.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists. She also took home Gatorade Michigan Player of the Year for Michigan in 2024-25 and represented USA Basketball at the 2026 FIBA U18 AmeriCup.

From ESPN’s Shane Laflin:

At UConn, Savoury projects as an aggressive scoring guard who can hunt 3-pointers early and often while also creating opportunities for others. Her defensive physicality and rebounding will fit the Huskies' up-tempo style and give Auriemma more defensive flexibility.

With the early signing period opening on Nov. 11, the Huskies are still in the mix for a handful of top prospects: Kaleena Smith (No. 1), Ivanna Wilson Manyacka (No. 3), Haylen Ayers (No. 8) and Kinga Josepovits (a 6-5 center from Hungary).
