The defending national champions will return to the court earlier than usual. On Wednesday, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced that UConn men’s and women’s basketball will take part in an exhibition double-header against Boston College on Monday, Oct. 13 at Mohegan Sun Arena. Tip times and broadcast information will be released at a later date.

This is a departure from the Huskies’ recent preseason structure. Over the last few years, they’ve played a secret scrimmage against a regional Division I team and an open exhibition against Division II competition. Now, UConn will take the court over three weeks before it opens the regular season with Louisville in the Armed Forces Classic at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.

UConn and Boston College were both founding members of the original Big East back in 1979 and remained conference foes until 2005, when the Eagles bolted for the ACC.

The Huskies own a 37-14 mark all-time against BC, though the sides haven’t met since Nov. 17, 2005. The Eagles won 10 of the first 15 matchups but then totaled just four wins over the next 18 years. The most notable contest between the teams came in the 2003 Sweet Sixteen, which UConn comfortably won 70-49.

Last season, the Eagles finished 16-18 overall (6-12 ACC) and lost to Villanova in the first round of the WBIT. They haven’t made the NCAA Tournament since 2006 and have just seven appearances all-time. UConn and Boston College could’ve faced off in the Baha Mar Women’s Championship last season but the Eagles were blown out by Ole Miss.

Though not an official game, this is the fifth date on the Huskies’ 2025-26 schedule. The exhibition is set for Oct. 13 while the regular season begins with Louisville on Nov. 5. UConn will play in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase on Nov. 21 and 23 against Utah and either Michigan or Syracuse, then take on Iowa in the Champions Classic on Dec. 20 at the Barclays Center.

UConn could play as many as six games at Mohegan Sun Arena next season between the exhibition, the Hall of Fame showcase and the Big East Tournament.
