What are UConn's best lineup combinations?

With Azzi Fudd out, the Huskies are back to square zero with their rotation.

We’re still in the first month of the season, and UConn women’s basketball is already hitting the reset button.

With Azzi Fudd out for the year due to a torn ACL and Caroline Ducharme’s status constantly in flux, the Huskies have struggled to find their optimal lineup combinations.

“All that time went out the window. All of September went out the window. We have to start over…now that we know what our team is,” Geno Auriemma told Hearst CT after the win over Kansas.

The early days without Fudd haven’t been easy for UConn. At Minnesota, the offense went stagnant for long stretches and only managed 63 points. In the Cayman Islands, the Huskies rarely found much cohesion in the half-court during either game and averaged just 69.0 points.

“Our combinations are all screwed up right now,” Geno Auriemma said after the loss to UCLA. “That's gonna get sorted out.”

This isn’t necessarily a new problem. Early in the year, UConn ran through countless lineups just to see what might work.

“I just want to experiment with as many different looks as I can,” Auriemma said following the season opener.

The difference now is that the Huskies are without a cornerstone of the roster in Fudd, and they have to figure out life without her on the fly.

They do have some time to work on it. UConn’s next game isn’t until Sunday at Texas, so the team has over a week to restart the process of finding the best lineup combinations.

That means it’s the perfect time to look at what has (and hasn’t) worked for the Huskies so far. CBB Analytics has a lineup tracker that shares which groupings have been used most often and how they’ve performed together.

In the four games since Fudd went out, UConn used nine total players in 11 different lineup combinations for at least five possessions across two different games. Anything less is too small of a sample.

Most common lineup: KK Arnold, Nika Mühl, Paige Bueckers, Aubrey Griffin, Aaliyah Edwards
