Over the last four months, UConn has proven itself to be the best team in the country. The Huskies are undefeated and have won all but a single game by double-digits. They’ve held the top spot in the AP Poll from the preseason through to now. They earned the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
But over the next few weekends, all of that goes out the window. Last year, UConn didn’t have the best resume on Selection Sunday, but it won the national championship because it was the best team in March.
As the Huskies begin their quest to repeat on Friday against 16-seed UTSA, talent alone won’t decide their fate. Instead, confidence will be the key.
“If you get to the point where everything is equal… then a team that plays with the utmost confidence and belief in themselves has a pretty good chance to win,” Geno Auriemma explained.
