Over 1,500 players entered the transfer portal in women’s basketball this offseason and UConn didn’t add any of them. Last Monday, Geno Auriemma officially confirmed that the Huskies won’t bring in a transfer this offseason.

The reason is two-fold.

First, UConn had no glaring holes on the roster. It brings back 10 players from the previous year, including three starters and seven members of its rotation. Those returners totaled 73.4 percent of minutes and 68.9 percent of scoring in 2025-26. That’s a lot of playing time and production already accounted for.

“When you have like 90 percent of your team back from a year ago, I don't think there's a lot of people in the portal jumping up and down wanting to come and put themselves in a position here,” Auriemma explained.

More importantly, the Huskies didn’t believe anyone was worth pursuing in what was considered a weaker portal class.
