UConn women’s basketball will play the Maryland Terrapins in the 2026 Women’s Champions Classic on Dec. 5 at Barclays Center, the school announced on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
Michigan and Iowa State will round out the rest of the field.
“It’s going to be exciting to have three new teams in the Women’s Champions Classic,” Geno Auriemma said in a release. “We have a history playing against Maryland, so it’s great to get that started again. Michigan and Iowa State both play a fun style of basketball. The first two Classics have been a tremendous success, and I think it’s going to continue to grow and grow each year. I’m proud to be a part of it.”
This is the third edition of the Champions Classic. In 2024, the Huskies beat Louisville 85-52 while earlier this season, UConn dispatched Iowa, 90-64.
The Huskies are 8-1 all-time against Maryland. They won the first six matchups, including triumphs in the 2013 Sweet Sixteen and the 2015 national semifinal. The Terrapins’ first and only victory came on Dec. 11, 2022 when they beat an injury-plagued UConn team that had to start then-freshman Inês Bettencourt at point guard. Despite that, the Huskies put up a valiant effort in an 85-78 loss.
UConn won the most recent meeting, an 80-48 destruction on Nov. 16, 2023 at Gampel Pavilion.
This is the third official date on the Huskies’ schedule. They’ll take on South Carolina at Mohegan Sun Arena on Nov. 24, face Duke at TD Garden in Boston on Nov. 28 and now battle with Maryland at Barclays Center on Dec. 5.
UConn is also set to play LSU in Nashville and has trips scheduled to Louisville, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Florida State. The Huskies have three openings left on their non-conference slate.
